Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education - U of M- Flint

Before coming to Owosso, I taught preschool for six years - one year in Mt. Morris and five years at U of M-Flint at the Early Childhood Development Center. This is my fifth year teaching Kindergarten in Owosso and not only have I found my place in Kindergarten but also in Owosso.

I live in Flushing with my husband (Matt), 7 year old daughter (Dylan), 4 ye5 old son (Donovan) and our dog Madison.  We enjoy going to our family cabin at Hubbard Lake and spending time together.  I grew up figure skating and still enjoy teaching ice skating after school.  I love taking pictures, researching and learning about anything that has to do with kids and education and my most recent indevor... blogging.

I have a passion for early childhood and stay involved as much as possible.  While I continue to be a member of Central Michigan's Association for the Education Young Children, I strive to share my knowledge with other early childhood professionals.  I am on my third year piloting the Kindergarten Entry Assessment (KEA) for the state of Michigan and will also be piloting another assessment for an outside company this year.  I often present at local, state and national conferences on a variety of topics including challenging behaviors, the importance of play, family involvement and most recently incorporating engineering into young classrooms.

I enjoy working with children and sharing in the learning process with them as I am able to learn from them just as they learn from me.  I feel it is very important to give children opportunities where thy have the chance to expand their learning.  I work hard to create an environment where they feel comfortable and have materials to do this.  I think learning should be a collaboration between families, teachers and children which is why I love family involvement in my room.  I believe kindergarten is a place where children can come together and learn appropriate social skills, resiliency, self control, how to make friends and most important I hope students leave my room loving to learn.
